Easter is now just around the corner and for many it means the pure joy of chocolate eggs - even for breakfast. Now as the big day draws closer the most unhealthy eggs have been revealed with the 10 most calorific eggs containing more than one person's recommended daily amount.

You may have already stocked up on your family favourite eggs as they have been out on supermarket shelves for months. However when you are cracking open eggs you may be wondering just how many calories are in the box.

The top ten list of highest calorie branded Easter eggs has been topped by Cadbury this year according to research from Alertr. On average the serving size of an Easter egg is only 25g, the price-tracking website revealed and eggs on shelves offer between four and 20 servings, reports Birmingham Live.

For the largest Easter eggs, priced between £10 and £12, Cadbury offered the most calorific product - the Dairy Milk Ultimate Daim Easter Egg, weighing 542g, which came in at just under 3,000 calories. In the smaller ranges however, Cadbury had the 'healthiest' options.

Alertr analysed 76 Easter eggs on sale in large supermarkets around the UK. Those in the under £3 range didn’t state how many servings were in each pack, but they typically sit around 100g so presumably contain four servings in each. The £3 and £5 ranges typically featured six servings per box and the £10 to £12 range offered between seven and 20 servings, with the average found to be 13.

Andy Barr, co-founder of Alertr, said: "Easter is such a fun time of the year; no matter what age you are, we all love to give and receive Easter eggs or our own alternatives. The aim of this research isn’t to put people off eating an egg or two over Easter, but more to highlight what they’re likely to be eating and encourage them to eat sensibly and with moderation – there are more positives for doing this besides watching what you eat; it makes the Easter eggs last longer, so you can enjoy them for longer!”
